How we collect our data
Our research uses public Google Maps results. Here is exactly what we measured, how we calculated it, and what the numbers can and cannot tell you.
What we searched
- 400 Google Maps searches in Bangalore.
- 40 areas across North, South, East, West and Central Bangalore.
- 10 business types: restaurants, cafes, salons, hotels, dental clinics, gyms, lawyers, real estate agents, car service centres and pest control services.
- One search per business type per area, naming the area.
- The top 20 results of each search, so about 8,000 listings in total.
- Research date: November 2026.
What we recorded and calculated
- Top-3 average reviews
- The mean Google review count of the first three results.
- Typical business
- The median review count of the top 20 results, so a few giants do not skew it.
- Average rating
- The mean star rating of the results.
- Under 100 reviews
- How many of the results have fewer than 100 Google reviews. Some searches returned fewer than 20 results; we show the real count.
- City figures
- Averages of the area figures across all 40 areas.
Other cities
- Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune: one city-wide Google Maps search for each of 30 business types, plus area searches for 5 business types in each published area.
- The same metrics as Bangalore: top-3 average, typical (median) business, average rating and how many of the top 20 results have fewer than 100 reviews.
- Because Bangalore figures average 40 area searches and the other cities use city-wide searches, city-vs-city comparisons are rough benchmarks.
Limits
- Google Maps results change over time and differ slightly by where and how someone searches.
- Review counts are public numbers shown by Google. We do not judge whether individual reviews are genuine.
- All figures are rounded and should be read as rough benchmarks, not exact targets.
- We publish totals and averages only, never data about one named business.
